GED Test Preparation and High School Diploma

Complete a minimum of 23 credits and earn a New Milford Board of Education Adult High School Diploma! Students must be 17 years of age or older and officially withdrawn from high school. Previously earned credits may be transferable. Please bring your most recent transcript and withdrawal papers from your last high school to registration. Academic counseling and confidential services are provided.

Students must register for a minimum of 2 credits to graduate from the High School Diploma Program.

For the High School Credit Diploma Program you must meet with our staff for an interview, placement test, and course planning.



GED® Test Preparation covers four content areas: literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies. The test will measure a foundational core of knowledge and skills that are essential for career and college readiness.

The format includes:

  • career and college readiness skills, 
  • more complex texts,
  • and a computer based test featuring multiple choice, fill in the blank, drag and drop, drop down menu, and multiple short and extended response writing.                       

Students must meet with Adult Education staff to interview and complete testing to determine eligibility to enter this program.

To enroll in the GED® Test Preparation Program, an adult must achieve:

  • a score greater than or equal to a 236 on the CASAS 50 Reading Appraisal and/or CASAS 50 Math Appraisal
  • level 4 on the Functional Writing Assessment
  • individuals must be 17 years of age or older AND no longer enrolled in school

There is no charge for these courses. The cost for students is time and commitment to the program.
